Ship's Log for Yachts (A3 Landscape Template) for Printing
We have put together a detailed, pro forma designed by me, based on over 35 years sailing yachts all over the world. I've designed the logbook based upon the data we need to keep when navigating on coastal or ocean passages.
This logbook serves as a useful navigation and boat management tool for even the most experienced of sailors. It enables any skipper to maintain a comprehensive log, quickly and easily. It also allows crew to make log entries. The sequence in which the data is prompted by the log book should also make your crew THINK about what is happening to the vessel.
For example; Have you checked the bilges for water? Is the wind veering and increasing? The barometer is falling very quickly and notes show that cloud cover is deepening. Apparent Wind Speed over reefing criteria? We rant the engine for 7 hours and used 35 litres of fuel today! All this and more can be recorded in this log format.
This is a PDF document. Download it and then print it (double-sided print on A3 or A4 in landscape), as many times as you like. We recommend using a professional printer to make sure the print is to a good standard. Always print the first 5 pages first, to check format is correct.
Afterwards, print the entire 30-page document as many pages as you like for your own use* and then bind the document down the short side (another reason to use a professional printer). And there you have it - a comprehensive logbook designed for the modern yachtsman incorporating data taken from electronic methods of navigation.
What's more, once it's full, just print off another logbook for the next year or ocean voyage. Simple! And it will save you £££s on the tired old-fashioned chandlery logbooks that, in my mind, serve little useful purpose.
